The Arrests
of a number of refugees in Turkey
The Iranian
Kurdish refugees or otherwise known as refuge seekers of Northern
Iraq ? have started a group strike in front of the Supreme
Commission of Refugees in Ankara in the last
three days. The strike took place due to the undetermined status of these
refugees as well as pressures and mistreatment by the Turkish police in the
last number of weeks.
According to
the latest news received today, the Turkish police have attacked the strikers
on Wednesday evening the third of August and have arrested 30 of the refugees.
These arrests took place at a time when the Prime Minister of Turkey has signed
treaties and agreement in regards to the security of the two countries with the
Islamic Republic of Iran. This agreement between Turkey and Iran has put the
Kurdish refugees in serious danger and possible deportations of Kurdish
refugees to Iran by the
government of Turley.
We hereby would like to
condemn the actions of the Turkish police and demand the immediate release of
the arrested refugees. We hereby would like to ask you and all humanitarian groups and
organizations to condemn the actions of the Turkish police and demand the
immediate release of these refugees.
