Mr. Kofi Annan,
the Secretary General of the United Nations
The United Nations
New York
September 8th, 2005
Mr. Secretary General,
Within the last few days the
Islamic Republic of Iran once more has started a new wave of
execution of political dissidents in Kurdistan. Esmaeel Mohammadi,
an activist of Komala Party in Iranian Kurdistan who had been
sentenced to death about 3 years ago was executed on September 4th,
in a prison in Oromiyah, ignoring all the requests and demands for a
stay of execution from human rights organizations and national and
international dignitaries.
Shooting at civic people, unwarranted arrests,
torture of the jailed, sham court sentencing, execution orders and
other cruel violations of human rights in Iran is not unknown to
anyone. It has been more then a quarter of a century that Iran has
been ruled by a totalitarian, religious fundamentalist, ruthless,
and brutal dictatorship that has killed scores of political,
religious, and belief system dissidents.
One of the most obvious forms of repression and
human rights violations is the widespread discrimination against
various national minorities in Iran. Kurds in particular have been
the subject of the most brutal repressions to a point that Iranian
Kurdistan is the only region in Iran where political executions have
occurred in recent years.
I, on behalf of people of Kurdistan, urgently ask
you to use all the United Nations has in its power and disposals to
force Iran to stop repressive acts in Kurdistan in particular
execution of political prisoners and shooting at civic people. It
should be mentioned that Kurdistan was the scene of one of the most
vocal and widespread peaceful demonstrations of people in the last
month against the maltreatment of youth by the regime security
forces.
With best regards
Abdullah
Mohtadi
Secretary General of Komala – Iranian Kurdistan
