To The President Khatami regarding case number 1564,

I am an American citizen who recently stumbled across a website pleading for the life of Esmail Mohamadi. I felt I should write to you as one human to another because I am deeply concerned about his supposed coming execution. I was not aware that Iran executed political prisoners, and as you are an Islamic government, I thought such would be understood as being outside of the Shariat.

There are very few governments in todays' world that execute political prisoners. This is now a violation of international law, with good reason. There are less Islamic governments than non-Islamic governments adhering to this practice of political executions. Did not Allah ta'ala in His Infinite Wisdom grant us all our free will? Please do not execute this man for having his own opinion. I know Iran is not a dictatorship, where everyone must do the will of another.  If one individual believes they are working for the good of another, we should not silence them. We should hear them out rather than condemn them.

President Khatami, I know you are truly elected by the people, and that your election was the result of a deep desire for reform and change. Please implement these changes in your government beginning with whatever laws are punishing men for their opinions. Your solution of execution is a permanent solution, whilst the offense you punish is a temporary and fluid offense that endangers no one. You were elected due to a difference of opinion held by the majority of Iran's people. This case is no different.

The right to life is sacred. Please respect God's Will in granting life to this man, and do not take Esmail Mohamadi's life before it's ordained end. I beseech you to overturn the legal decision taken by your judiciary, as juctice should be the order of the court and this execution would clearly be an injustice.

Sincerely,
Kara Bentz
